WPC to address the role of water in the development of the pistachio sector in Ciudad Real

The technical conference “Pistachios and Water: A Necessary Partnership for the Development of the Sector”, organised as part of the World Pistachio Congress, will take place on 23 October in Ciudad Real, bringing together representatives from public administration, the scientific community, agricultural organisations and the pistachio sector to discuss the crop’s water requirements and irrigation strategies in a context of water scarcity.

The conference will feature José Juan Fernández Zarco, Director General for Rural Development of the Government of Castilla-La Mancha; Juan Miguel del Real, President of the World Pistachio Congress Organising Committee; Ricardo Miguelañez, WPC General Coordinator; and Joan Girona, researcher at IRTA, who will address pistachio water requirements and irrigation strategies under water-scarce conditions.

The programme will also include a round table on pistachios and water, with the participation of Jesús Peñaranda, from Cooperativas Agroalimentarias de Castilla-La Mancha; Juan de Dios Cuberos, from Agroisa; Juan Antonio Jiménez, from Adipe; and Llanos Simón, from ITAP. The session will be moderated by Irene Agüera Sánchez, European Pistachio Council Coordinator.

The conference will conclude with a networking session, providing an opportunity to exchange knowledge and strengthen connections among the different stakeholders involved in the development of the pistachio sector.
