Some dates are not chosen at random. World Pistachio Day, dedicated to celebrating one of the crops with the greatest agricultural and food projection in the world, was the chosen moment to officially present the World Pistachio Congress (WPC) website, now available at www.worldpistachiocongress.org.
With its launch, the organization activates its official information channel and its social media profiles, in preparation for the first edition of the congress, which will take place on February 17 and 18, 2027 in Toledo. The platform will centralize the project's content and accompany its development over the coming months.
The portal gathers the vision and strategic objectives of the WPC: to promote knowledge transfer, foster innovation, encourage cooperation between the different links in the value chain and contribute to greater professionalization of the sector on an international scale. It also presents its organizational structure, including the Organizing Committee, Scientific Committee and Advisory Committee.
The WPC website also includes information on sponsorship modalities, a news section with videos, multimedia gallery and press releases, as well as a specific space dedicated to the international poster contest that will be launched shortly.
The organization invites professionals, companies, researchers and institutions to register to receive the monthly newsletter, a tool that will allow them to follow the news and participation opportunities until 2027.
An international meeting point for the sector
Driven by Agrifood Comunicación, the World Pistachio Congress will be held in Toledo on February 17 and 18, 2027, as an international meeting point to analyze the current situation of the crop and its future prospects.
During the two days of the congress, both the technical aspects of cultivation —agronomic management, new varieties, water efficiency— and economic and commercial issues —markets, prices, processing— will be addressed, without forgetting its relationship with health and gastronomy. The program will also include networking spaces and round tables aimed at strengthening collaboration between producers, companies and researchers.
The objective is to offer a comprehensive vision of the sector, allowing progress in organization, innovation, international positioning and generation of added value.
Spain, protagonist of pistachio growth
The launch of the congress takes place in a context of strong global expansion. World production exceeds one million tons annually and continues to grow, driven by demand linked to healthier consumption habits and the search for profitable crops adapted to new climatic conditions.
In this scenario, Spain has become one of the most dynamic countries in the sector. In just one decade, the area dedicated to pistachio has gone from residual figures to nearly 80,000 hectares, making the country the European leader in cultivated area and one of the main global operators, only behind the United States, Iran and Turkey.
National production continues to increase. By 2025, the Spanish harvest could be between 8,000 and 10,000 tons, practically double that of the previous year, thanks to the entry into production of new plantations, many of them still in early stages.
Within this growth, Castilla-La Mancha has established itself as the heart of Spanish pistachio, with a significant part of production in organic format and high quality, highly demanded in the markets. This territorial leadership has been decisive in the choice of Toledo as the venue for the first edition of the congress.
With the launch of its website on World Pistachio Day, the World Pistachio Congress takes a decisive step in its preparation and lays the foundations for a stable space for meeting and cooperation for the sector towards 2027.
