The World Pistachio Congress (WPC), a global event dedicated to the pistachio sector, has officially opened registration for its first edition, which will take place on January 27 and 28, 2027, at the Toledo Conference Centre (Palacio de Congresos de Toledo), Spain.
Companies, professionals, and institutions interested in attending can now register and take advantage of a 15% early-bird discount available until September 30, 2026, for the General, Student, and Half-Congress registration categories. Registration is available at https://www.worldpistachiocongress.org/inscripcion_2.
Participants will be able to choose from different registration options, including full Congress attendance, half-Congress attendance, student registration, and the opportunity to attend the Gala Dinner, which will be held as part of the event.
According to Ricardo Migueláñez, General Coordinator of the World Pistachio Congress, “the pistachio sector needed an international forum capable of bringing together, in one place, those who generate knowledge, produce, process, and market this product.” He added: “The WPC aims to become the place where the trends shaping the future of the market are analysed, the latest innovations are shared, and new partnerships are created among the leading players in the global pistachio industry.”
Growers, industry representatives, researchers, traders, distributors, and institutional stakeholders will gather in Toledo at the World Pistachio Congress to exchange knowledge, analyse market developments, and discuss the key challenges and opportunities that will shape the future of this strategic crop.
A Programme Focused on the Sector’s Major Challenges
Alongside the opening of registration, both the Scientific Committee and the Organizing Committee are already working on the development of a high-level technical and business programme that will bring together some of the world's leading experts in pistachio production, processing, and marketing.
The scientific dimension of the Congress is led by Dr. Louise Ferguson, Professor in the Department of Plant Sciences at the University of California, Davis (UC Davis) and one of the world's foremost authorities in pistachio research and development. She will chair the Scientific Committee, which will be responsible for shaping the content and discussions that will define the future of the sector.
Meanwhile, the WPC Organizing Committee is chaired by Juan Miguel del Real, Director General of Cooperativas Agro-alimentarias de Castilla-La Mancha. Comprising national and international experts from across the pistachio sector, this committee is responsible for overseeing the implementation of the work plan established to promote the Congress both nationally and internationally.
The sessions will address some of the issues that will shape the future of the sector, including genetics and varietal improvement, production systems, irrigation and fertilisation, processing and industrialisation, quality and food safety, sustainability and climate change adaptation, the role of pistachios in health and nutrition, communication and marketing, international markets, consumer trends, and the key challenges related to innovation and global competitiveness.
The Congress has already secured the support of major industry companies, including Solagro and Agroisa as Platinum Sponsors, and Grupo IberoPistacho and Agróptimum as Silver Sponsors. Their support contributes to the promotion, innovation, and growth of the pistachio industry worldwide.
The World Pistachio Congress Organising Committee invites professionals, companies, and institutions from around the world to become part of this international initiative.
