The World Pistachio Congress is born, the major international forum for the pistachio sector

The pistachio is one of the crops with the greatest global projection due to its economic value, nutritional properties, and growing presence in both the agri-food industry and consumption habits. Global production currently exceeds one million tons annually, with the United States, Iran, Turkey, China, and Spain among the main producing countries, in a context of sustained expansion of the crop and increasing market interest.

In Spain, the pistachio is also experiencing strong growth, with an annual increase in cultivated area of around 8,500 hectares. Castilla-La Mancha accounts for nearly 80% of national production, making the region a strategic hub for the present and future development of the sector. This production leadership, reinforced by the reference research center El Chaparrillo, contributes to the continuous improvement of the crop from a technical and scientific perspective.

Despite this growth, the pistachio sector still faces key challenges related to organization, knowledge generation, innovation, internationalization, and joint communication—fundamental aspects for consolidating its development and strengthening its global positioning. A reality that can be addressed thanks to a new international collaborative tool such as the World Pistachio Congress (WPC).

The WPC is a project driven by Agrifood Comunicación, with the support of the Government of Castilla-La Mancha, the leading national producer, aspiring to become the world's leading event dedicated to pistachio and the main meeting point for all operators in the international value chain. The congress will bring together producers, processing companies, marketers, researchers, technicians, and institutions from the main producing and consuming countries.

An international brand to unite the entire sector
The World Pistachio Congress is born with the vocation of establishing itself as a leading international brand, under which the different links in the sector can come together, share knowledge, and work collaboratively to enhance the value of pistachio, improve its quality and food safety, as well as its positioning in markets and image at both national and international levels.

The congress will have a biennial character and will hold its first edition on February 17 and 18, 2027 in Toledo. The project is already underway and its website will be available shortly, featuring a comprehensive program of actions under the slogan “On the road to WPC”, which will include official presentations, technical conferences in the main international producing areas, professional meetings, and various initiatives to promote knowledge aimed at both consumers.

The WPC will have a solid organizational structure, consisting of an Honorary Committee, an Organizing Committee, an Executive Committee, and a Scientific Committee made up of national and international specialists, ensuring the rigor of the program and representation from all areas of the sector.

It is an open and collaborative project, in which associations, cooperatives, companies, research centers, and institutions can actively participate in the different working committees, contributing to defining strategic lines, congress content, and the actions that will shape the roadmap for the pistachio sector in the coming years.

With the birth of the World Pistachio Congress, the pistachio sector takes a decisive step toward organization, visibility, and global leadership of a crop destined to play a key role in the agriculture of the future, especially in regions of the world where it holds great importance, such as Castilla-La Mancha.
