The director of the National Institute for Agricultural and Food Research and Technology (INIA-CSIC), Cristina Óvilo Martín, is to join the Honorary Committee of the World Pistachio Congress (WPC), a global conference dedicated to the pistachio sector, which will be held on 27 and 28 January 2027 at the Toledo Conference Centre.
Óvilo’s participation reinforces the scientific and research dimension of an event that aims to become an international benchmark for the entire pistachio value chain. The WPC will bring together producers, processors, marketers, researchers, technical experts and institutions from the main producing and consuming countries in Toledo.
Cristina Óvilo Martín has been Director of INIA-CSIC since 2024. Her scientific career is particularly linked to the fields of genetics and agri-food research, with extensive experience in the study of genes of economic interest and in the analysis of genomic and transcriptomic data.
Her appointment to the Honorary Committee thus represents further endorsement of the technical, scientific and international nature of the WPC, which was established with the aim of promoting knowledge transfer, driving innovation and creating a space for cooperation amongst the various stakeholders involved in the pistachio sector.
The Honorary Committee is chaired by the President of Castilla-La Mancha, Emiliano García-Page, and currently includes the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Luis Planas, and the Regional Ministers for Agriculture of Castilla-La Mancha, Andalusia and Extremadura.
